2025 single Solstice Sun gently guides listeners through the peaks and troughs of life, using the earth’s seasons as its central metaphor. A collaboration with Gloucestershire songwriter Tom Symmonds which has it’s roots in the lockdown of 2021 and blends Symmond’s keyboards and alt-pop soundscapes, with Byrne’s signature acoustic guitar and cinematic tendancies, augmented by Sophia Bartlett’s violin playing.
Previous singles Houses and Summer Rain showcased his capability for fingerpicked acoustica, drawing comparisons with Novo Amor and Keaton Henson. Championed by the likes of Mahogany sessions and Amazing Radio’s Frankie Francis, they drew praise for uplifting lyricism and understated delivery.
Solstice Sun is the third of Nick’s tracks to be produced by Jake Robbins (CUSP, Weird Milk). Previous releases Birch Tree and Through The Tall Grass EP garnered praise from BBC Wales and BBC Ulster, helping secure a notable spot supporting indie-pop starlet Declan McKenna at a 1,100 sellout show at BNU Student’s Union.
